Trainings

For more than four decades, ISACC has trained thousands of development practitioners as well as pastors and church leaders on what it means to do wholistic or Integral Mission. Under this rubric are non-formal courses on ISACC’s thematic interests: gospel and culture issues, social development, communication across cultures and witness to society in general. As a training and capacity-building organization, ISACC has trained more than 200 churches and faith-based development organizations in community development under its Hasik-Unlad program, which has for its theme, ‘The church as an agent of change.’

ISACC’s Transformational Development course has trained thousands of practitioners and emerging leaders into understanding Integral Mission and development. This program has spawned and inspired the setting up of many faith-based organizations that now serve the poor. ISACC has likewise sent training teams to Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam and Laos under the auspices of Open Doors, an organization that serves church communities in restricted contexts. Currently, the organization is pioneering ASTRAD or the Asian School of Transformational Development to train development practitioners who wish to have formal training under its Masteral degree programs, namely an MA in Transformational Development, MA in Cross-Cultural Studies and MA in Social Entrepreneurship.

The following short courses are run seasonally or upon request of organizations:

A seminar for pastors, missionaries and church workers wishing effective witness. Topics include Biblical Perspectives on Culture, Entering Filipino Culture, Critical Contextualization, Witnessing to Filipinos, Philippine Church History, and Issues Facing the Filipino Church.

This 2-week course helps development managers and field practitioners to think biblically and apply Christian values in their management and community development processes.

The course has two modules:

Module 1: Theological perspectives and socio-cultural approaches in doing development, with Dr. William Dyrness, theologian, and Dr. Melba Padilla Maggay, social anthropologist, leading a team of management, finance and community development experts speaking on their fields of experience.

Module 2: Practical approaches to poverty-reduction and social change. Features a survey of Christian social teachings and movements through the centuries, to be done by the missiologist-historian Dr. Andrew Walls, with local experts speaking on climate change and psycho-spiritual approaches to disaster response, globalization and modernization, microfinance and poverty-reduction, advocacy and socio-political change. It will also feature case studies from Latin America and Africa.

A unique feature of the course is that it assembles a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team of globally experienced experts and practitioners under one roof for a rich and spiritually refreshing two weeks. In keeping with wholism, the seminar provides space for corporate Bible meditation, spiritual growth and a sense of solidarity and community.

Development practitioners in the Asia region are encouraged to attend. Discounts for early bird registrants. Limited scholarships are available.
